Graduate School Application Forms
Online Application forms
The application for graduate admission is available online through the KU Graduate School. By completing the online application, you can apply for admission to the Graduate School, for scholarships administered through the Graduate School, as well as being automatically considered for teaching and research assistantships administered through the Dept. of Geology. The University of Kansas charges a fee for internet applications. However, if the fee presents a financial obstacle for you, please email Yolanda Balderas at email@example.com for instructions on how to obtain financial assistance from the Department to cover all or part of the cost of your application.
What You Must Supply to the Graduate School for a Complete Application(Do not send application materials to the Geology Department; they must go to the Graduate School for review.)
|1.||Online Application Form This is automatically received by the graduate school; you do not need to send this in. If you cannot fill out an online application, you will need to obtain a paper application from firstname.lastname@example.org (see Alternative Application Forms, below).|
Official transcripts and proof of graduationU.S. universities generally indicate on transcripts if a degree has been conferred. However, if such a statement does not appear on a transcript, separate proof in the form of a degree certificate or diploma, issued directly by the institution, is required. Photocopies are not accepted. Transcripts from all post secondary institutions that you have attended are necessary for your application. Failure to provide them could result in delay processing your application.
If a student is admitted before completing his or her undergraduate degree, the documentation proving he or she did graduate must be supplied to the Dept. of Geology before the end of the student's first semester at KU.
Three (3) Letters of referenceOnce the applicant submits the online application form (see point 1), referees will receive an email notification with detailed instructions on how to submit a letter of reference. If a referee is unable to send materials electronically, please email Yolanda Balderas (email@example.com) at the University of Kansas, Department of Geology.
GRE scoresThe Dept. of Geology at KU requires all incoming graduate students to write the GRE exam and provide scores in their application to graduate school. Use the code 6871 to specify that the scores should be sent to the University of Kansas.
TOEFL/IELTS scoresThe Graduate School at the University of Kansas requires all prospective students who are non-native English speakers to take the TOEFL or IELTS tests and provide the scores to KU as part of their application. Use the code 6871 to specify that the scores should be sent to the University of Kansas. More information about this requirement can be obtained from the Graduate School.
Additional Materials Required for Students from Outside the U.S.A.
Proof of financial supportIf financial support is being provided by the Dept. of Geology at KU (e.g., scholarship, graduate research or teaching assistantship) or by a KU scholarship, KU fellowship, or other KU award, the documentation proving financial support will be prepared at KU. If financial support is obtained from outside sources, other documentation will be required. Usually this is provided by the student as
Proof of graduation and transcripts in English with U.S. equivalency in grades
In many countries the transcripts issued by universities do not explicitly state whether or not a degree was conferred. Instead, the university provides degree certificates or diplomas. If the student's transcript does not state that their degree has been conferred, we require an original degree certificate, issued by the institution, showing conferral.
Prospective students should request that their institutions provide transcripts in English.
