Biography

Kadir Baris Bakioglu is an accomplished geophysicist with over a decade of experience in potential field geophysics, data analysis, processing, gravimetry, magnetometry and educating about variable geoscience topics. Currently pursuing a PhD in Geology at the University of Kansas, he serves as a Teaching and Research Assistant.

Baris' professional journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Geophysical Engineering from Sakarya University. Having experienced the catastrophic effect of Istanbul Earthquake in 1999, he conducted his BS thesis about Southern Marmara Earthquakes and their statistical approach. During undergraduate, he managed to work as an intern in Bogazici University National Earthquake Monitoring Center in Kandilli National Observatory. Additionally, he had a second internship in Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) and that internship shaped his career decision to go further in Exploration Geophysics.

Earning a fellowship from TPAO, Baris advanced his academical pursuits with a MS Degree in University of South Carolina. Under the advisory of Dr. James Kellogg, he had a project in SE of Colombia. He successfully conducted a study to understand the Precambrian Garzon Massif and its effect on Garzon - Algeciras fault zone by an integrated study of seismic, gravity and magnetic interpretation and modelling.

Professionally, Baris spent almost a decade in TPAO. He started there as a geophysicist in Department of Gravity , Magnetics and Remote Sensing and he served as a Department Manager in his last two years. During his career, he participated in various projects from processing raw marine and airborne gravity and magnetic data, grav/mag data acquisition, survey planning, interdisciplinary work and mentoring teams on projects.

With a passion for innovative solutions and geophysical exploration, nowadays Baris aims to advance further in his career by adding teaching experience and contributing to important projects in exploration geophysics.
